DERA BASSI, FEBRUARY 15
With the post of the ENT specialist lying vacant at the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital for more than a month, patients are reportedly facing hardships in getting medical facilities at the ENT Department of the hospital.
Patients either returned without being treated or go to private medical centres, said one of the doctors. Sources said operations were being delayed by the department regularly and the patients were being advised to go to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, and the General Hospital at Panchkula, sources added.
Sangeeta Jain, the ENT specialist, was promoted to the SMO post in January. The ENT post has been lying vacant since then. Patients are forced to visit private practitioners and shell out more money.
Ramchander, a patient, said, “Patients have to suffer when the specialist doctors are unavailable. The government must ensure to fill a post as soon as it gets vacant.”
“I took my mother to the Civil Hospital to get her examined, but I have been told that there is no ENT specialist in the hospital. Now I will visit a private practitioner,” said Anju, a resident of Dasmesh Nagar.
Mohinder Singh, SMO, Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, said, “The post of the ENT specialists has been lying vacant since January. The higher authorities are well aware of the problems being faced.”
Jai Singh, Civil Surgeon, Mohali, said, “We have already written to the authorities concerned regarding the problem. Since the code of conduct is in force, all appointments are on hold and will be filled after March 14.
