For the first time in the district, a voter guide will be sent to every household with the voter slip prior to the elections.
The eight-page pamphlet contains information about how to get voter cards made, who is eligible to vote, not accepting or distributing any money, liquor, etc. for voting in favour or against anyone, as it is illegal. It has information on how to check if one’s name is there in the voter list. It is mentioned that just having a voter card is no guarantee that one would be able to vote. One must ensure that his or her name is there in the voters’ list. Residents can check it online by visiting nsvp.in, or calling 1950 or contacting the BLO of the area or send a message on the mobile number given in the pamphlet.
It also contains information about what to do on the election day and not to take camera or mobile phone inside the booth.
An official said though this pamphlet would not benefit much, it would essentially be a guide for first-time voters. Apart from this, many people don’t even know how to check his/her name in the voters’ list, he said.
Speaking about it, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ravi Bhagat said around 7.5 lakh copies of the voter guide are being printed.
These would be sent to each household before the election on February 4, he said.
