NSS unit inaugurated

National Service Scheme Unit was inaugurated for the academic year at Gulzar Group of Institutes. Dr Jagmeet Bawa, programme coordinator, IKG Punjab Technical University, was the chief guest. As many as 153 NSS volunteers were present at the moment. NSS Programme officer Dr. Nishi Bala outlined the various activities planned for the academic year at the moment. He highlighted various schemes offered by government for the betterment of society and state such as blood donation, cleanliness and plantation activities which are carried out by the NSS volunteers. He said many schemes could not be effectively implemented due to lack of human resources and appealed to the NSS volunteers to come forward to take it to the target population.

Book released

Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management released a book “Make in India: Challenges and Opportunities”. Members of the NAAC Peer Team during their visit for Assessment and Accreditation Cycle-1 of the college released the book.

Women empowerment

RIMT Group of institutes organised a seminar on women empowerment ‘Honour Our Women’. Principal Dr Sushil Garg and SDM Ravjot Kaur shared her views on women empowerment and created awareness about raising safety for women. Sim Kwatra threw light on women empowerment which helps them to take their own decisions by breaking all personal limitations of the society and family. Shivam Chabbra said women empowerment refers to strengthening the social, economic and educational powers of women. It refers to an environment where there is no gender bias and has equal rights in community, society and workplaces. Niti Jain, director, HOW Foundation, emphasised on the need of education for the girl child. Neelima Gupta appreciated the efforts of our society as it has started recognising the individual identity of women. — TNS
