A team of the Irrigation Department today visited Barhana village and inspected the waterlogged agricultural land. It also took stock of the arrangement made by the authority as well as farmers to drain out water from the fields.
After inspecting the situation, the officials assured the farmers of getting the stagnant water removed from the fields by installing more electric motors. The farmers also urged the officials to ensure adequate supply of electricity and water in the village, especially in the daytime.
The Tribune highlighted the plight of the village farmers in these columns on Wednesday.
“Four motors at three places outside Barhana village and two in the village have already been installed to drain out the water. Inadequate supply of electricity is also a hurdle in undertaking the process,” said Sachin Kumar, junior engineer (JE) of the Beri division.
He said a motor, which was lying defunt in the village, had been replaced during the visit and a strategy had been chalked out to remove the water. To resolve the electricity issue, the power department would be requested to provide round-the-clock electricity in the village for at least a week, so that all fields could be dewatered, the JE said.
Ram Singh, sarpanch of Barhana’s Gugnan panchayat, said the officials had assured them of initiating dewatering tomorrow. He said today, they took stock of the situation for further action.
He said over 70 acres of agricultural land were still inundated due to rainwater.
