The one-year certificate course in Production of immunobiologicals and animal care was inaugurated at the Kasauli-based Central Research Institute by Virender Kashyap, MP, Shimla, today.

Institute sources said the course was an initiative towards skill development and was affiliated to the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT). The uptake of this course is 25 students annually.

“The manufacture of immunobiologicals and animal care is an important and highly technical field which requires trained manpower at every level. Although on-job trainings are provided to the staff, specially qualified field staff are not readily available. So, this course will play a significant role in developing trained manpower to work in various health, research and pharmaceutical setups and provide a plethora of opportunities for the youth,” said Dr Santosh Kutty, Joint Director, of the institute.

Virender emphasized the importance of skill development for the progress of any country and said the government had created a separate ministry for skill development to achieve this target.

Dr Rajiv Saizal, MLA, Kasauli highlighted the role of the institute as a premier institute in the field of microbiology and its potential to provide education to young generation. The CRI Director said this was one of the many steps initiated to regain the lost glory of the institute.
