Ludhiana, July 22
It was good news for the higher-ups in the Municipal Corporation when the Chief Secretary, through a video-conferencing, informed them today that Ludhiana was among the top three cities to be recommended for getting the smart-city tag as it fulfilled several conditions laid down by the Central Government.
The video-conferencing was attended by the Municipal Commissioner, Mayor and around three other officials.
Sources said the other cities in the race for smart city tag were Patiala, Mohali, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Bathinda. Among all these cities, Ludhiana and two other cities will be recommended for getting the smart-city benefits.
The Mayor said top three cities, on the basis of their overall performance, will be recommended by state government for the smart city project. “The overall scores of all cities will be tallied by the Central Government and then top 20 cities will be selected for getting grant in the first phase. We are hopeful that we will be the one among those,” said Mayor.
He also said feedback of the public was equally important to bring improvement in cities.
“In case the public comes forward with their suggestions, it will be more helpful for the authorities to realise the great dream,” said the Mayor.
