The assurance committee of the Lok Sabha has mooted a plan to rename the Pantnagar airport as ‘Nainital Corbett Pantnagar airport’ to give it an international identity. The proposal will be sent to the state Chief Secretary for further action, committee chairperson Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said at Nainital today.
Nishank, who was chairing a meeting of the assurance committee, said the move would not only ensure branding of the airport but also give it an international identity. “International and national tourists, who want to visit the Corbett trail in and around Nainital as well as the lake city, will become acquainted with the nature of the destination from the airport name. The move will encourage international tourists visit Nainital and surrounding destinations,” he said.
Nishank added the committee was evaluating over 24 departments in the context of assurances given by their ministries on its functioning and operation. These departments include the NHPC, the AAI, THDC, agriculture, power and water resources departments. “Most of the cases before the committee from Uttarakhand are related to power, water resources, agriculture, forest and environment ministries,” he said.
