Ludhiana, June 6
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has appealed to farmers of the state to transplant paddy from June 15 for water conservation, reduced pest attack, better yield and good marketing.
As per the Punjab Preservation of Subsoil Water Act-2009, paddy crop is to be transplanted from June 15. According to a recent notification of the government, there is no change in the paddy transplantation date this season.
Meanwhile, PAU experts said paddy was transplanted from June 15 last year and it resulted in record production without encountering any problem in marketing of ‘parmal’ rice. The experts said in the cotton belt of Punjab, the early sowing of paddy could lead to the increase in humidity, thereby increasing the risk of attack by whitefly and other pests. The PAU has appealed to farmers to go for paddy transplantation from June 15 in order to save water.
