A play titled ‘Dardan De Darya’was organised by Sirmaur Art Production, Samrala, to cause public awareness about social evils. It was staged at the local Government Girls Senior Secondary School.
This play based on a story ‘Bhagan Wala’, written by Ram Dass Bangar, highlights the present plight of farmers and the increasing incidence of farmers’ suicides.
Former member of the SGPC Sarbans Singh Manki inaugurated the play and ex-MLA Jagjivan Singh Khirnia felicitated the artistes. Directed by Khushwinder Singh Sodhi, the play focused on the worsening economic condition of the farmers due to increasing debts which led to their suicides. It highlights the effects of drug abuse and educates the farmers and labourers not to resort to suicides and instead find alternate ways for their livelihood.
Gurpreet Singh Gopan in the role of farmer and Jasvir Kaur as mother excelled. Other roles were played by artistes of Sirmaur Art Production including Kulvir Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Lovejeet Singh Bhangu, Jagdish Kaur, Manpreet Kaur,Prince Gobindgarh and Vishal Sharma.
