The department of physics and mathematics at the Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, organised an inter-college poster-making competition on the topic “Light in Day to Day Life ‘. It was organised in collaboration the Chandigarh Renewal Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). Students from various college of the tricity participated in it with enthusiasm. The winners were awarded cash prizes.
Talk on social media
The CII and the alumni committee of the MCM DAV College for Women organised a talk on the positive side of the social media and digital marketing. Around 100 students from diverse streams attended the lecture given by Vibha Sharma, an IT expert with three-year experience in Quark and Altaware. She discussed a variety of benefits offered by the social media.
Readers’ club formed
The postgraduate department of English, PGGC-11, formed a readers’ club, The Yugen. Started with an aim of creating a breed of not just readers but also speakers, writers and thinkers, the club promises conventional reading practices besides other activities for the holistic development of students. The club held its first introductory session, which was attended by 50 students and teachers from various departments.
Cocktail competition
A cocktail competition, Intoxication-2016, was organised at Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management. A preliminary test was conducted after which five students were selected for the competition. The event involved making of two cocktails-classic and innovative. Ajay Tandon from CITCO and Vishal Kalia, senior faculty of the college, graced the occasion.
Case study
The team of the Dr SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET), PU, again brought laurels to the varsity by bagging the second position in a case study competition, Briefcase, during the The Enactus Festival-2016 at Ramjas College in Delhi University. Enactus faculty adviser Prof Seema Kapoor informed that 120 institutes from different parts of the country participated in the contest.
Seminar
A two-day national seminar on the theme “Access to Education and Idea of Social Justice” started at the department of philosophy in Panjab University. Prof Ronki Ram, Dean, Faculty of Arts, explained how to make the education system more inclusive and justice oriented. Prof Harjinder Singh Laltu from the IIT, Hyderabad, spoke on social and economic inequalities and the future of the Indian education system.— TNS
