Dehradun, July 25
A new postmortem house for Dehradun district will start functioning at the Coronation Hospital from Monday.
After much delay, the Department of Health and Family Welfare has decided to shift the postmortem house from a dilapidated building in Chander Nagar to the Coronation Hospital.
“Things had gone from bad to worse with leaking roof, water seepage in walls and broken windows,” said Dr Alok Teotia, senior physician at Doon Hospital.
Significantly, after spending a considerable amount on the new postmortem house, the district authorities had been delaying using it under political pressure. The entire complex was ready three years ago but remained unoccupied.
“Builders and local residents had become unduly vocal on the issue. All hospitals have postmortem houses on their premises but objections were raised against it by residents. The builders too joined the chorus as they were worried about a possible price crash in their flats coming up in the vicinity due to the presence of a postmortem house,” a resident said.
