PPCB seals biomedical waste store
Ludhiana, January 2
The Punjab Pollution Control Board sealed a store of Medical Environment Management Company, which was being run in an illegal manner at Lohara village. An FIR has been lodged against the director of the company and the person, who provided the land for the store.
According to officials, the company had been given the contract of biomedical waste management in the city but PPCB officials had doubt over its working. The officials were keeping a check on the company’s activities for the past 15-20 days.
The Chairman of the PPCB, MS, Chatwal said biomedical waste was not being stored in a proper manner and this was to be taken to Delhi for recycling without the adoption of a proper procedure. “About 773 kgs of waste was lying in the store that included empty bottles and syringes. We have filed a complaint against the director of the company and the owner of the land,” said the PPCB Chairman. — TNS
