The Haryana Assembly today passed a privilege motion against Congress MLA Karan Singh Dalal for “misleading”  the House. Dalal had claimed that 30 per cent of the premium charged from farmers for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna was going to ministers.

The motion, moved by BJP Chief Whip Gian Chand Gupta during zero hour, was passed by a voice vote and referred to the Privileges Committee. Health Minister Anil Vij raised the matter after question hour. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ram Bilas Sharma asked Dalal to withdraw his remark.  “As  a norm, insurance companies give a 30 per cent commission to anybody seeking insurance cover. I said if that was so, the ministers too must have got it,” Dalal explained. As the Speaker remained unconvinced, Leader of the Opposition Abhay Chautala urged him to play yesterday’s recording. “Let Dalal face a privilege motion if he has made these charges," he suggested.
