PYC polls over; results for top posts on Aug 11

The Punjab Youth Congress (PYC) voting process concluded today. The fate of the candidates for the posts of state president and general secretary will be known on August 11. Voters comprised grassroots level youth workers and activists who were elected at the panchayat level (rural areas) and ward levels (urban areas).
Bhalla wins in Jalandhar
Jalandhar: Ashwin Bhalla won the election for the post of district LS president of the PYC. Bhalla received 205 votes while his opponent Kaku Ahluwalia got 108 votes. Earlier, Paramjit Bal was elected president of the Jalandhar Central, Angad Datta Jalandhar Cantt, Rajesh Agnihotri Jalandhar West, Ajay Kumar Lucky Jalandhar North, Bhuvnesh Kanda Nakodar, Navjot Singh jyoti Adampur, Vikas Nahar Shahkot and Pawan Punj Phillaur.
Dakala pips Gaur in Patiala
Patiala: In a major upset in the Patiala Lok Sabha segment Youth Congress poll, Dhanwant Singh Jimmy Dakala owing alliance to Sanour MLA Lal Singh’s camp, drubbed Karan Gaur, who is close to Preneet Kaur, by a margin of 25 votes. While Dakala bagged 153 votes, Kaur Gaur garnered 128.
‘Poll led to groupism’
Gurdeep Untsar, Patiala district Youth Congress chief, claimed that the experiment of conducting polls had failed to bring any positive results. It had rather increased factionalism and bickering within the youth wing, he alleged. Former presidents Goldy Nizamaniwala and Jaswinder Randhawa too alleged the polls had divided the party at the grassroots level.
