The local chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Doctors Save Daughters, an NGO, is of the view that qualified doctors were not largely responsible for the declining gender ratio in the state.
They said illegal activities of gender determination and female foeticide were being done by quacks and chemists.
Addressing a seminar on “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” at Ashirwad Palace, Dr Pankaj Vats, chairman of Doctors Save Daughters Foundation, said drugs of abortion were being sold by chemists without any prescription and in most of the cases, pregnant women went to gynecologists with complications caused by these drugs.
“In such situations, our doctors are in a dilemma as to how to save the woman’s life, as it could land them in legal wrangles,” he said.
Dr TD Dogra, Vice Chancellor of SRG University, Gurgaon, and former head of Forensic Department of AIIMS Delhi gave demonstration on how he and his team solved cases like Nithari and Godhra killings.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mahavir Singh, ADC Rajesh Jogpal and Judicial Magistrate Jatinder Kumar Berwal, Civil Surgeon Dr SB Kamboj, Medical Superintendent of General Hospital, Fatehabad Dr OP Dahmiwal were present at the seminar.
