No extra money was spent on the office in which new UT Adviser Parimal Rai moved in recently. Rai has shifted to the office originally meant for the Adviser till his predecessor Vijay Kumar Dev occupied the “bigger” office of his boss UT Administrator. Dev had moved in the Administrator’s office temporarily as major renovation was on in the Adviser’s office. The budget estimate of more than Rs 80 lakh was prepared for this purpose, but it was put off after it courted controversy. Later, the Adviser’s office was allotted to another IAS officer and Dev decided to work from the Administrator’s office. But no sooner Rai took over the charge of the coveted post following the “mid-term” ouster of Dev, he decided to leave the Administrator’s office and quietly moved in to the Adviser’s office.

Balancing act

The recent reshuffle in the UT Administration has brought cheer among the Haryana cadre IAS officers who after so many years have got their dues. Learning from the past experience wherein his predecessor was accused of “sidelining” the state cadre officers by giving “prime postings” to the UT cadre babus, new UT Adviser Parimal Rai tried to do a balancing act in the reshuffle.

Humour experts

Speakers at a recent seminar on the “National security threats” took a swipe at JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who was embroiled in an anti-India slogan controversy. BJP leader Dinesh Kumar, while taking a dig at him, said, “His name is Kanhaiya but his actions are those of his mama (Kans).” This left the audience, comprising large number of students, in splits. Taking the humour quotient forward, defence expert Maj Gen (retd) GD Bakshi wondered, “I fail to understand there is a student of 32 years who has been doing his PhD for the last around eight years and I, a retired person, has completed my PhD in two-and-a-half years.”

De-stress with doughnut

The CBSE Class XII board exams are on. While discussing the question paper after their psychology exam, the other day, a group of city students was busy calculating the number of holidays in between the next exam. One of them – a bright, young lad of 17, remarked that he was under a lot of stress as he felt he was not prepared to appear for his geography exam. His friend remarked, “Do not stress. Have a doughnut. Stress cannot exist in the presence of a doughnut.” The group burst out laughing and stress vanished from the young boy’s face.
