Jagad Guru Shankaracharya Raj Rajeshwaram Maharaj has demanded construction of a temple at Shri Ram Janm Bhoomi in Ayodhya. He said it would be the real tribute to late Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) ideologue Ashok Singhal.
Shankaracharya Raj Rajeshwaram, in a statement issued today, termed Singhal as the ‘son of the soil’, who worked all his life for the causes of society and religion.
“Ashok Singhal was a pioneering figure during the Ram Janm Bhoomi movement, whose name will be inked in golden letters whenever this movement will be remembered. He had made a pledge to construct the temple at Ayodhya and was immensely concerned about it,” he said.
The religious guru also expressed concern over the western culture influencing the younger generation. He urged parents, teachers and educational institutes to impart moral education to the younger lot.
“Though the country has made great strides in terms of technique, commercialisation, urbanisation and monetary benefits, we have been lagging behind when it comes to morality, character, discipline, respect to elders and humanity,” he added.
