Rape victim gets Rs1.75 lakh aid

Under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has ordered payment of Rs 1.75 lakh as compensation to a rape victim in the district for her rehabilitation.
Out of this amount, Rs 10,000 is to be paid in cash to the victim for her immediate rehabilitation. The remaining amount of Rs 1.50 lakh is to be deposited in fixed deposit with a nationalised bank for a period of three years or till the the victim attains maturity.
In her orders, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-secretary, DLSA, Harshali Chaudhary, had directed that no loan should be advanced against the fixed deposit, while monthly interest should be deposited with the bank in the victim’s account. The District Education Officer has also been asked to get the victim enrolled into a school. The victim was a minor and a Class IX student at the time of the incident. She was kidnapped on the intervening night of October 6 and 7, 2013, from Gohana. — OC
