Dehradun, February 22
The city police arrested two persons to crack the kidnapping case of a property dealer, Manoj Kumar Gupta. The arrested persons, identified as Vikas Kumar and Ambuj Tyagi of Muzaffarnagar, UP, were arrested in Hapur (UP). A hunt is on to arrest their two accomplices, including a woman, who are at large. The victim was brought to the city yesterday, the police said.
SSP Sadanand Datte said six police teams led by SP City Ajay Singh were formed for investigation. He said the police were sent to Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad and other places to trace the kidnappers. Preliminary investigation revealed that a woman was used as a trap to kidnap Gupta for ransom, he said.
The accused’s movement was under police surveillance. The SSP said more than 10 suspects were detained while investigating the case.
The police said Vinay alias Tinkoo of Jagriti Vihar, Meerut, had masterminded the abduction. Around 12 cases were already registered against him. The woman, used as honey trap, has been identified as Mamta, a resident of Gurgaon. Both are absconding.
It may be recalled that Gupta along with his woman friend had come to his farmhouse in Dunga village, which falls under the Premnagar police station, on Thursday night. Farmhouse caretaker Umesh served them dinner and left at night. Finding Gupta and the woman missing under mysterious circumstances on Friday morning, he informed the police.
Besides dealing in property business, Gupta is the co-owner of a private clinic in Meerut. SSP Datte said two circle officers and 10 Sub-Inspectors were deployed to solve the case.
