As per the available information, of 106 hotels, approximately over 40 hotels in the city have non-compoundable violations. In that case, sealing and demolition remains the only option.

These hotels are located in all parts of the city, but most of these are located in the interior parts. An MC official said people had purchased booths and clubbed them to come up with hotels with absolutely no proper parking space etc in city area. “Not just in interior parts, but several reputed hotels on Ferozpur Road, too, are under the radar of MC authorities and if the recommendations of committees are taken seriously, floors of these popular hotels in city can be sealed in the near future,” the official said. The complaint was made directly to the Additional Principal Secretary by a local resident, which was taken seriously, following which committees were constituted and surveys done. Senior Town Planner Kamaljit Kaur said surveys were almost complete, but there was no plan to take immediate action against hotels with violations. The recommendations of the committees would be forwarded to the government for further orders, the STP said.
