City residents faced the brunt of prolonged power cuts for the second consecutive day today.
Officials of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited claimed that scheduled power cuts were implemented due to maintenance works under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP) project to strengthen electricity distribution system in the state.
UPCL said the maintenance works would be carried out at 11 KV Doon feeder which would affect electricity supply in many colonies of Dehradun.
The power cut for nearly eight hours would be implemented in Garhi Cantt, Kishanagar, Chakrata road, Dakra, Eidgah, Govindgarh, Bindal Pull, Cantt Road and many other localities. The maintenance works are slated to conclude on April 15.
Madhusudan, an official spokesperson of UPCL said the maintenance work was being done to ensure proper voltage and disruption free electricity to the commercial and domestic consumers.
The demand supply gap had narrowed down in the state. Against the demand of 31.03 million units, the state is getting 30.90 million units per day.
The state-run hydropower projects contributed 9.20 million units of electricity to the state. UPCL restored to power cut for nearly one hour in the rural areas of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts to meet with demand of electricity in the state.
