As a result of the strike call given by rice millers, the purchase of paddy was affected in grain markets of the district today.

No purchases were made at Cheeka mandi by millers and government agencies that caused resentment among the farmers, who resorted to blockade of the Kaithal–Patiala road for nearly two hours.

Guhla Tehsildar Vijay Mohan reached the site and persuaded protesters to lift the blockade assuring them of paddy purchase on Monday. He said talks were going on between rice millers and the government, and a solution would be found soon. — OC

7,481 MT paddy arrives in mandis

Chandigarh: Nearly 7,481 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy has so far arrived in mandis of the state. An official spokesman said 5,270 MT paddy has arrived in Ambala, 1,041 MT in Karnal, 810 MT in Panchkula and 360 MT in Yamunanagar. — TNS
