In a major breakthrough, the police have booked Rohit Gupta, younger son of Anand Mills owner Sunil Gupta, who was driving the car, under section 304 of the IPC.
Rohit, who is reportedly suffering from some ailment, has fled to Delhi along with his elder brother Ankur Gupta to evade arrest. On the night of incident, Rohit was driving alone while returning home from Bhai Wala Chowk after leaving his relatives.
The ACP- West, Rupinder Kaur Sra, said Rohit, who also lived at Aggar Nagar, sped off after the accident. “After reaching home, he narrated the incident to his father who took the damaged car to his namesake relative (Sunil Gupta’s) house and parked the vehicle there on the pretext that there was a function at the house and the damage car would catch the visitors’ attention,” said ACP- West Rupinder Kaur Sra.
She said Rohit’s brother Ankur, father Sunil and his namesake Sunil Gupta had been booked under section 212 and 216 of the IPC for harbouring the criminal.
She said a close circuit television (CCTV) camera captured the movement of the speeding Skoda Superb car. The broken parts were matched with the car, said Sra.
When asked whether Rohit was under the influence of liquor when the accident happened, Sra said all these issues would be investigated after his arrest.
