Roads in Udhampur district being blacktopped after three decades

Udhampur roads will be repaired after three decades as the Public Works Department (PWD) has finally started blacktopping roads.

Local residents, who have been eagerly waiting for the repair of the roads for a long time, are now hopeful that they will get relief from driving on muddy and bumpy roads.

According to the Executive Engineer, PWD, Udhampur, a total length of 45 km with 3-m width would be blacktopped with an amount of over Rs 9 crore. He added that the project would cover almost all the city roads.

He said the blacktopping of roads would be completed by December 15, if weather favoured. Otherwise it would be done by March 2016.

When contacted, Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology Pawan Gupta said an estimated Rs 40 crore would be spend first time in one year on the construction of different roads in the district. The blacktopping of city roads would be completed in a time-bound manner.

He said for the purpose he directed the executing agency to adhere to the quality of material and complete the works in a stipulated time so that the general public got better road connectivity. He added that the government was committed to providing improved basic facilities to people at their doorsteps.
