Rs 1.25 cr to be spent on yoga day function

The state-level yoga day function being held in Karnal on June 21 will cost about Rs 1.25 crore to the state exchequer.

A state government circular, a copy of which is with The Tribune, reveals that the government is leaving no stone unturned to make it a grand show. The circular maintains that a large number of t-shirts worth Rs 20 lakh will be distributed to the participants at the function, while another Rs 30 lakh has been earmarked for refreshments.

Tenting and carpeting is likely to cost Rs 20 lakh, while the sound system will take Rs 15 lakh. A budget of Rs 15 lakh has been earmarked for the transportation of the visitors. Over 30,000 people, including VVIPs such as Chief Minister Khattar, his cabinet colleagues and MLAs, are expected participate in the programme, which will being held at HUDA Ground, Sector 32.

While the VVIP toilets would cost Rs 2.40 lakh, Rs 2 lakh would be spent on toilets for the public, the circular mentioned.

The lighting and generator arrangements would cost Rs 2.5 lakh, while Rs 2 lakh would be spent on flags with the yoga logo. The training sessions for the state-level programme would cost Rs 6 lakh and Rs 4.80 lakh have been earmarked for miscellaneous expenses.

The government has provided Rs 12 lakh for each of the 20 districts, while Rs 10 lakh has been designated for Panchkula.

Sources said the state government had also earmarked another Rs 50,000 for each of the 26 subdivisions (excluding 21 district headquarters) in the state that could inflate the total cost by another Rs 13 lakh.

While the total budget for the state-level and district-level programmes was pegged at Rs 3.75 crore, the fresh budget for the subdivisions would raise it to Rs 3.88 crore, the sources added.
