To recover pending power bills to the tune of Rs100 crore, the circle office of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has launched a drive to take action against the defaulters, which includes several government departments.

“We hope to recover the pending amount within three months,” claimed Mukesh Gupta, superintending engineer, DHBVN.

Gupta said while the department initiated action against the defaulters after non-payment of two consecutive bills, the authorities had decided to take a proper action against any consumer who owed them a bill of Rs2,000 or more for the past four or more months.

According to the details of such defaulters, provided on the website of the nigam, the pending amount in the circle is Rs395.53 crore till July 31, 2014. This includes the pending amount of Rs185 crore of those consumers who had still been in the connected category. The department had disconnected supply to 63,297 consumers who had failed to pay the pending amount of over Rs210 crore by then.

The pending amount stands against various categories which include domestic (urban, rural) non-domestic, industrial and agriculture categories. With 8,834 new connections released between April and August 14, 2014, the total connections in Faridabad circle have risen to 4,35,103 as on August 31, 2014

Sources said while 45 per cent of the defaulters belong to the domestic category, the Municipal Corporation is among those government departments that owe several crores as bill amount to DHBVN at present.
