The managing committee of Government Doon Medical College Teaching Hospital has approved a budgetary allocation of Rs 2 crore.
The committee was revived to look into the budgetary needs of the teaching hospital comprising male and female hospitals.
The committee was earlier dissolved after the creation of the medical college but this month the government revived it. The committee will meet after three months to look into the day to day financial needs of the hospital.
The budgetary allocation will be made from the user charges earned by the hospital. Since the medical college came into being, the money earned by way of user charges was being deposited in the government treasury. Now, a provision will be made for the upkeep of the hospital.
Dr KK Tamta, Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, says a provision of Rs 1.20 crore has been made for medicines and other equipment while Rs 15 lakh will be for canteen charges, Rs 15 lakh for office and Rs 30 lakh will go towards miscellaneous charges.
This budget is over and above the one that will go towards running of the medical college. Medical college DR Pradeep Bharti Gupta heads the committee.
Dr Tamta says the hospital has managed to repair warmers, the photo therapy machine and other equipment that were malfunctioning. Three emergency officers have also been hired. Now, there are six emergency doctors to run the wards.
