Commute on the stretch between the Kandrour bridge and Hamirpur of the National Highway-88 will no longer be a nightmare. An amount of Rs 289 crore has been earmarked for the road repair. The Public Works Department has even started the tendering process.
Sources said the national highway division of the department had already invited two bids for the widening and improvement of the road.
On the stretch, there are over 11 narrow bridges and around 25 culverts and many fatal accidents have taken place in the past. As per reports, more than 25 persons have lost their lives in the past three years. The national highway division had submitted a detailed project report to the Ministry of Road Transport last year. It had sent an estimate of over Rs 320 crore, but the ministry had approved Rs 289 crore.
HL Sharma, Executive Engineer, national highway division, said the Ministry of Road Transport had sanctioned over Rs 289 crore for widening of the NH-88. He said the two-lane road would not only be widened, but also be made safe in two years.
