Safety first: Subhash Nagar residents show the way
Chandigarh, July 23
Setting an example, residents of Subhash Nagar in Mani Majra pooled in money and installed 25 CCTV cameras and security gates and hired guards to man these.
Petty crimes like auto lifting and snatching used to take place in the locality and residents were also facing victimisation at the hands of anti-social elements. To keep a check on such incidents, residents pooled in Rs 500 each to install CCTV cameras at vital locations in the locality. The CCTV cameras were installed with the help of the UT police.
Roshan Lal, SP (Communication and Law & Order), formally inaugurated the 25 CCTV cameras being installed in the locality. “It is important to install more and more CCTV cameras in the city so as to keep a close watch on culprits and anti-social elements. These cameras also help prevent crime or any untoward incident,” said the SP.
The residents were motivated and guided by the SHO of the IT Park police station to install the CCTV camera in their area. — TNS
