Sanour school cleanest across state

Patiala, January 11

Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema declared Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sanour, as the cleanest school across the state for maintaining greenery and cleanliness on the school campus.

Government Senior Secondary School, Khudi Kalan from Barnala district, and Government High School, Gill from Ludhiana district, bagged the second and third places, respectively.

The school was adjudged the best among 311 government schools that participated in the “Swachh Vidyalaya - Swachh Bharat” contest organised by the state government in collaboration with the American India Foundation (AIF).

A computer, a projector, a trophy and a certificate were conferred on Sanour school by Cheema, AIF authorities, District Education Officer Harinder Kaur. School principal received the award on behalf of the school.

Punjab Director General School Education (DGSE) Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal had launched the contest from July 6 to October 6, 2015, to cultivate the spirit of cleanliness and hygiene in the schools and community.

The Operation Director, American India Foundation, Mrinalika Dhapola, said the competition was focused on certain parameters such as self cleanliness, personal and food hygiene, classroom cleanliness, potable water and proper disposal of waste water, clean neighbourhood and various activities for spreading awareness about ‘swachhta’ in the community.

The school was selected best for its initiatives taken to reduce pollution, maintaining greenery and use of solar energy in the school.

Principal Karamjeet Kaur said with the support of the students, science teachers Abhinav Joshi and Harwinder Kaur, the school had maintained a medicinal park having various species of herbs.

Six big solar cookers installed on campus

A team of NSS volunteers under the guidance of lecturers Karamjit Saini and Sunita Rani were given the responsibility of visiting surrounding villages and localities to clean the areas and motivate the public for cleanliness. School science teachers and students have worked collectively to harness solar energy for useful purpose for which six big solar cookers have been installed on the campus so that students can heat their meals naturally.

311 govt schools take part in contest

Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sanour, was adjudged the best among 311 government schools that participated in the “Swachh Vidyalaya - Swachh Bharat” contest organised by the state government in collaboration with the American India Foundation.
