The police have arrested Kamlesh Devi, sarpanch of Swaroopgarh village of the district, for allegedly forging Class X marksheet to contest panchayat polls held in January.
She has been sent to judicial custody by a local court today.
Deshraj Dahiya, SHO, said Kamlesh was arrested after a thorough probe into the incident, adding that her husband was still at large.
Kamlesh and her husband Rajesh Kumar were booked by the police under relevant sections of the IPC on March 8.
The matter came to light through an RTI filed by Jai Prakash, a resident of the village, seeking information about her education qualification.
Jai Prakash claimed that Kamlesh was not a matriculate and had obtained the marksheet using fraudulent means.
Meanwhile, several organisations under the banner of Jai Hind Manch also staged a protest in Bhiwani seeking action against the sarpanch and her husband.
