The administration of Durga Public School is under the scanner following the death of a Class VIII student, Surya Prakash.
The student reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room yesterday. Additional SP Bhagat Singh said the deceased’s parents had alleged that the school administration was harassing their son and he was forced to take the extreme step.
Surya was found hanging in his room, where he had gone during the fruit break at 11 am. The warden spotted the body and informed the school administration. The boy was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead. He hailed from Kurali in Punjab. His father Surender Rathore told the police that their son was not ready to rejoin school after vacation and that they had to force him to go back.
A few days ago, a Class IX student of Baru Sahib had complained of ragging. The two cases have put a question mark over the working of the institutions.
The SP said they had started inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the IPC.
