Science city status sought for Ambala

Ambala: The Ambala Scientific Instruments Manufacturers’ Association (ASIMA) has sought the status of Science City for Ambala. It also raised a demand to set up skill-development institute along with a research and design centre here. Talking to The Tribune, Rakesh Gupta, president of the ASIMA, said, “The scientific instruments industry is well known in the country and abroad. But, Ambala still lacks recognition as a Science City.” He said this would help give a boost to the industry and increase revenues, too. Gupta said they had requested Science and Technology minister Anil Vij to raise the issue with the Centre. AK Verma, DGM, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Limited, said Ambala should be given the status of Science City. — OC
