Selena Gomez, who was scheduled to do concerts in Guangzhou and Shanghai in China, had to cancel the shows due to instructions by the Chinese government in this regard. The reason behind it is said to be her affiliation with the Dalai Lama.

Selena had taken a picture with the spiritual leader when he had visited Vancouver in 2014, where they had co-hosted a youth empowerment project. The singer had shared it online with the caption, ‘Words of wisdom #speechless.’

The Chinese government has long held a firm stance against the Tibetan leader and this is not the first such instance. The country is notorious for blacklisting people who have any connection with the Dalai Lama or the Tibetan freedom struggle.
