Panchkula, August 4
The Haryana Sahitya Akademi, under the aegis of the state government, organised a seminar on short-story writing at the akademi bhavan here today. Akademi director Dr Kumud Bansal introduced the subject of the seminar.
She welcomed the writers and invited Dr Ashok Bhatia, a prominent short storywriter of Haryana, to deliver the keynote address.
He delved on historical and literary perspective of storytelling and writing in India. He maintained that the art was influenced by the Panchatantra stories. Well-known writers Prem Vij, Rattan Ratnesh, Shashi Prabha, Lakshmi Rupal, Santosh Garg, Vinod Chauhan and others read out their stories on diverse themes. These literary creations were subjected to an open discussion.
Akademi vice-chairman Radhey Shyam Sharma, former editor Dainik Tribune, observed that due the paucity of time, writers preferred to opt for writing short stories, dohas and ghazals that are more relished by the audience. — TNS
