Haridwar, April 23
Revered Guru Shankaracharya, founder of Advaita Vedanta doctrine and Dashnam Sanyas tradition, binded Indians into one thread through religion-culture and philosophy.
This was stated by Juna Akhada spiritual head Maha Mandaleshwar Swami Avdeshanandji Giri Maharaj here today during the conclusion of Shankaracharya Jayanti function in Haridwar.
Citing immense contribution of Adi Shankaracharya, Avdeshanand said four ‘muths’ were founded by the revered saint at Shri Badrinath in the North, Dwarka, Puri, in the West, Jaganathpuri in the East and Shringeri in the South.
For the past 1200 years, the path set up by Shankaracharya is being followed, which has revived the Hindu religion and philosophy, he added.
From Brahma Kund, Har-ki-Pauri, to the Shankaracharya square near Ganga canal, Mayapur, special rituals were performed, while tributes were offered at Suratgiri ashram.
City legislator Madan Kaushik at Suratgiri ashram said the Shankaracharya conserved unity and integrity of the country. He left the world at a young age of 32, but did such a notable work that is relevant today even after 1,200 years.
Shankaracharya Memorial Committee president Maha Mandaleshwar Swami Vishwesharanandji Maharaj said that “today we need to follow the path and doctrine preached by Adi Shankaracharya”.
At the tributes-paying meeting demand was made from the government to announce a national holiday on the birth anniversary by Swami Kalyanand Saraswati. The committee general secretary Shri Mahant Devanand Saraswati, Maha Mandaleshwar Anand Chetanya, Maha Mandaleshwar Swami Bhagat Swarup, Maha Mandaleshwar Swami Hari Chetanand Maharaj, Swami Hari Ballabh Shastri, Mahant Darshan Singh, Mahant Vidhyanand Bharti, Mahant Sukhdev Muni, Swami Durgeshananan and Mahant Lalitanand among other spiritual gurus were present at the occasion.
