Panipat, May 26
The police have arrested Rajender Singh Sandhu, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Matlauda police station, for helping and favouring a drug trafficker and accepting Rs 8 lakh as bribe from him. He was produced before court, which sent him to three days police remand.
Earlier, Sanjay Kumar, Rohtak IG, had asked Rahul Sharma, Panipat SP, for an in-depth probe into the matter.
Bali Singh, Matlauda DSP, while talking to mediapersons in the special staff office, revealed the information. He said sources had informed the department that Sandhu and other police officials were favouring the drug trafficker and showing less recovery of drugs from him. They had also taken money from him in lakhs in lieu of this favour, he said.
“The Matlauda police had nabbed Rajesh, a resident of Nara village, on May 22 allegedly with 190 gm of charas. A case had been registered against him under the NDPS Act,” said the DSP.
“In the preliminary inquiry, it was found that after the arrest of Rajesh, the police took him to his accommodation to recover more narcotics from him. The team that accompanied him consisted of SHO Rajender Singh Sandhu, EHC Jaiveer Singh and 2.5 kg charas was recovered from his house,” he said.
“The team then demanded Rs 10 lakh from the accused in lieu of showing minimum recovery to weaken the case. The deal was finalised between the SHO and Ishwar Singh, brother of the accused, for Rs 8 lakh,” he said.
