As the higher reaches of tribal Lahaul-Spiti district witnessed the first snowfall, the journey on the Manali-Leh highway, which is a preferred route for adventure lovers, has become risky.
A majority of tourists prefer to visit Leh-Ladakh via Manali during the tourist season to enjoy the panoramic view of nature but plummeting temperature and occurrence of snowfall on higher reaches have made the journey risky, which prompted the district administration to issue an advisory to visitors asking them to refrain from visit, especially on motor cycle.
The district administration has urged visitors, especially those who are unaware about the tough terrain, to refrain from visiting on motor cycle.Due to plummeting temperatures, frost deposited on the road.
Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul Spiti, Vivek Bhatia posted this advisory on facebook also to let the public aware about it.
Talking with The Tribune here today, the DC said the step had been taken to avoid any untoward incident in the region. The Manali-Leh route was used to supply fuel and ration to the Army in Leh-Ladakh. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has the responsibility to keep the road open till late October or November.
However, the BRO authority has deployed its force on this route to keep it open for the vehicles. BRO Commander Colonel KP Rajendra said the workforce would continue to work to keep it open until the area witnessed heavy snowfall.
