Chandigarh: South India is known for its varied styles of cooking, which was showcased at the South Indian food festival at St Mary’s School, Sector 46, on Sunday. A typical South Indian ambience has been created on the school campus where various kinds of mouth-watering range of delicacies were served to one and all. The chairman of the school, Rev Fr John K Jacob, welcomed the gathering with his inaugural address and inaugurated the food carnival by cutting the ribbon at the traditional Kerala, “Thattukada”.

MoU signed

Charles Samuel, Principal, Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh, and Jin-sook Sa, Principal, Areum Middle School Sejong, Korea, signed an MoU of cooperation and student and teachers exchange programme. To mark the Indo-Korean Exchange Programme, students made a mesmerising presentation of Bharatanatyam, Korean songs and dance and bhangra. Jin-sook Sa emphasised on joyful company, happy harmony and hopeful education between Indian and Korean students. Approximately 10-15 students from Classes VI to VIII and three teachers will be exchanged under this programme.

Lecture on ethical conduct

The Central Bank of India organised a lecture on ethical conduct and moral values at SD School, Sector 32, Chandigarh, in continuation of the Vigilance Awareness Week velebrations. Dr Madhukar Arya, professor in Panjab University, said a man learns about moral values and ethical conduct from his childhood and the role of mother and teacher was more significant to build a strong character.

Mock parliament

With a view to further strengthening the roots of largest democracy in the world among the future leaders, the social science department of St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School organised a mock parliamentary session. Students from classes IX and X got a first taste of governance in parliament.

Mehndi competition

A mehndi competition was conducted at Heritage Public High School, Jagatpura, on Karva Chauth. Students applied beautiful mehndi designs.

Light and sound show

Students of classes I and II presented their annual function through a light and sound show at Sri Guru Harkrishan Model School, Sector 38. Around 200 students performed in a play, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.

Vigilance Awareness Week

Stepping Stones Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, observed Vigilance Awareness Week. A slogan-writing competition on preventive vigilance and a poster-making competition on ‘transparency-an antidote to corruption’ was also organised.

Musical extravaganza

Senior students of Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, presented a colourful musical extravaganza, SPLASH 2015. A potpourri of songs, dances and dramas marked the celebrations. The highlight of the evening was the musical act on women empowerment by girl students of Class X.

Quiz contest

Panchkula: Renowned Quiz Master Derek O’Brien’s Bournvita Quiz Contest was held at Yadav Bhawan, Sector 12, Panchkula. Students from Grade 7th and 8th of St Soldier’s Public School, Sector 16, Panchkula, participated in the quiz. After clearing the preliminary round, two students of Class VIII - Divya Poudel and Ishita Bhardwaj - won the quiz and were declared Panchkula winners.

Havan performed

A havan was performed on the premises of DAV School, Sector 8. It was followed by a ‘Rishi’ langar, which was partaken by students of Jagriti, a parallel school for the economically marginalised section.

Budding space scientists bring laurels

Zirakpur: A team of budding space scientists from Dikshant International School, Zirakpur, have done the tricity proud. Their orbital space settlement project - Apara Kshiti-Mandala - was declared Numero Uno by top space science experts of India at the recently concluded National Conference on Space-2015 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The conference was organised by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST). The students won the first prize of Rs 11,000, along with a trophy in the ‘orbital space settlement design’ competition’. — TNS
