Tarn Taran, July 6
Employees of various state government departments today gheraoed the District Treasury Office (DTO) against the sudden “abolition” of the border house rent (BHR) allowance from this month.
Police force, led by DSP Harpal Singh Randhawa, was deputed on the spot to prevent any untoward situation.
Balkar Valtoha, a leader of the employees, said the allowance was being given to the government staff working in the border belt since 1970 and it was revised from time to time.
DTO Devinder Singh, who has just assumed charge here, denied salary bills with the BHR from this month. Valtoha said the state government had not even issued any such order.
The employees lifted their dharna after DSP Harpal Singh organised a meeting of the employees with the DTO, who assured the reinstatement of the BHR and also said he would seek further clarification in this regard.
