Chandigarh, July 13
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the Haryana Government to come out with a definite reply on its move to provide reservations to Jats under Specially Backward Class (SBC) in the state.
The development is significant as the Supreme Court has already rejected the recommendations of State Backward Commission providing quota to Jats.
Taking up the matter, the Division Bench headed by Justice Satish Kumar Mittal also fixed July 20 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
The directions came during the hearing of a bunch of petitions filed by Murari Lal and others through Vijay Kumar Jindal, Mukesh Verma and other counsel against inclusion of Jats and four other castes in the SBC category for providing reservations in the state government jobs.
During the resumed hearing of the case, the counsel for the petitioners informed the Bench that the SC has already rejected the recommendations by Haryana State Backward Class Commission headed Justice KC Gupta favouring quota for Jats.
Despite the setting aside of commission’s report by apex court, the state government was still giving reservations to Jats in jobs advertised by the state government.
The counsel also produced copy of a recently issued advertisement by Haryana government for providing reservation to Jats under SBC.
