Uttarakhand will be hosting the National Games in 2018. This was decided at a meeting of the Indian Olympic Association held in Chennai. This would be the first time that the state would host such an event. Chief Minister Harish Rawat said this was a matter of pride for the state. With an event of such a scale, the sports facilities in the state and opportunities for players would increase, he said.

The games would be organised at the Maharana Pratap Sports Stadium, Dehradun, and the Indira Gandhi International Stadium, Haldwani. Water sports would be played in Tehri. A sports village would come up for the two-week-long event in the state. — TNS
