Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs Sohan Singh Thandal today laid the foundation stone of the International Bhai Mardana Memorial, which will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 7.5 crore.

Earlier, the state government had allocated one acre of prime land situated in the heart of the city for the construction of the memorial.

Senior SAD-BJP leaders, including former state BJP chief Kamal Sharma, and district officials were present on the occasion.

Bhai Mardana was Guru Nanak Dev’s longtime Muslim companion. He was with him in all of his journeys across India and Asia.

Thandal said this was the first of its kind memorial dedicated to Bhai Mardana established all over the world.
