‘Jilted’ teenage boy throws acid at Class 8 students

Two teenage boys hurled acid at a five schoolgirls causing severe burns to one and injuring the others in Gurdaspur’s Dera Baba Nanak on Wednesday.
The victims were walking home from school after taking their Class 8 board examination when two teenagers passing them on a motorcycle threw acid from a can.
The victim who had severe burns said one of the two on the motorcycle — a Class 10 student of the same school until recently, when he was expelled — had been stalking her since the past few days. She said she had told her grandfather, who had told the suspect off on Monday and even threatened him, Senior Superintendent of Police Daljinder Singh Dhillon said.
The suspect “vowed revenge” on either the victim or her grandfather, police said.
On Wednesday, when the victim saw him loitering near the group, she asked him what he was doing. The suspect then threw the acid at her.
The victim is currently being treated at a hospital in Amritsar hospital, while the four others are in w Dera Baba Nanak Civil Hospital.
The two suspects are currently missing.
