School of Design Studies of the University of Petroleum Studies (UPES) organised a ‘design conclave’ on its campus at Bidholi today. The conclave had two components called Design Dialogue and Design Opera.
During Design Dialogue, three eminent personalities from the field of design spoke to the students. They were G Sathiyaseelan, design head of Ashok Leyland; Satish Gokhale, founding director of Design Directions; and Richa Ghansiyal, a social entrepreneur and owner of Design and Development. Autodesk, a software company, also participated.
Design Opera was an exhibition to showcase the variety of products designed by the students. Some of the main attractions included clay model exhibits of various vehicles by students of transportation design. These models were made from imported industrial clay and were made by the exact process which is followed at General Motors. The students of industrial and product design displayed their innovative products which included unique featured chessboards and theme-based wall clocks. The students also displayed furniture conceptualised and designed on linguistic alphabets of Hindi, English, Gujarati, Malayalam, Burmese and Greek. Products made from waste materials like tyres, gunny bags, plastic were also put on display.
