Students exhorted to promote Dogri language, culture

To showcase the history of the Dogra rulers, the Dogri Bhasha Academy in collaboration with Tiny Aspirants Higher Secondary School organised an inter-school debate competition.

Students of government and private schools participated in the event.

Member, Maharaja Gulab Singh Trust, and former minister Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, he said the contribution of Maharaja Gulab Singh towards the welfare and development of the state would be recognised and remembered by the generations to come. He described Gulab Singh as a visionary, brave and able administrator and a great human being who had provided justice to all during his regime.

Sham Lal also appreciated the organisers of the competition for their efforts. He exhorted the students to work hard to promote the Dogri language and culture which was the rich heritage of the region.

The former minister advocated introduction of Dogri in the schools from the elementary level as the language had been included in the 8th Schedule.

Addressing the gathering of students and dignitaries, Maj Gen Govardhan Singh (retd) talked in detail about the achievements of Maharaja Gulab Singh who he said had risen from an ordinary soldier to a king. He appealed to the youth to protect the rich cultural heritage of the Dogras.

Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh said such seminars and debates were the need of the hour to counter the false propaganda of the forces challenging the accession of the state with the country. — TNS
