Students of DBS College staged a protest here today demanding that the college authorities should draft a proposal to grant scholarships to meritorious students belonging to the reserved category. They closed the college for the day to mark their protest.

The students, under the banner of Vikas Group and the DBS College Students’ Union, gathered on the campus and raised slogans against the college administration. They said a memorandum was given to the officials concerned to distribute scholarship, but to no avail. “Effective steps should be taken to distribute scholarship to meritorious students belong to the SC, ST, and OBC category. The college administration should sanction funds for improving basic amenities like potable water, better parking lot, clean toilets etc,” they said.

The protesters said they would hold another protest soon if the college administration didn’t accede to their demands.

Parvesh Parmar, general secretary of the DBS College Students’ Union, said meritorious students from the reserved category were unable to purchase books as they had not been given scholarships for long.

Pradeep Singh Tomar, Rajeev Kumar, Jaipal Tomar, Sonu Bhatt, Devendra Negi and Anil Panwar took part in the protest.
