Students hold ‘prabhat pheri’

The 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was celebrated in the Kumaon region today. Students of several schools in Almora and Pithoragarh held ‘prabhat pheri’ to mark the day. Seminars on Dr Ambedkar were also organised.

In Almora, a programme to commemorate Dr Ambedkar was organised at Ramsey School where Almora MP Ajay Tamta presided over as chief guest. The programme began with an oath ceremony in which audience vowed to fight against discrimination, said Rajendra Prasad Tamta, member of Ambedkar birth anniversary programme committee in Almora. He said school children took out a procession from Chaudhanpata to Ramsey.

An event was organised at Ambedar Park in Pithoragarh where people from all walks of life paid tributes to the father of Indian Constitution. Madan Sanyal, one of the organisers, said, “The programme was followed by a public meeting at Nagarpalika Hall, organised by the district administration. The contribution of Dr Ambedkar was recalled.”
