Three persons, including a woman, were shot in Sursingh village, 20 km from here, on Tuesday evening. The Bhikhiwind police have booked four persons under the Arms Act. They are Avtar Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Jobanjit Singh and Yadwinder Singh. “Political enmity” was the reason behind the crime, the police said.

Man shot dead

A 67-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his nephew and his associates over a property dispute on Kacha Dosanj Road in Moga on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Baldev Singh, an ex-serviceman. A resident of nearby Dosanj village, Baldev was allegedly shot by his nephew Avtar Tari. He died on the spot. A case has been registered and a postmortem examination will be conducted. The accused is still at large.

4 drug peddlers held

Four persons, including a foreign student of LPU, were held with 8 gm of heroin, 5 kg puppy husk and 50 gm intoxicant powder. The accused have been identified as LPU student Sabrise of Rwanda, Gurpreet Singh, Ajay Kumar and Honey Kumar.

Ex-serviceman found dead

An ex-serviceman, who went missing three days ago, was found murdered at Thireywal village here on Wednesday. Sources said the victim, Mangat Ram of Umarpura locality in Batala, drove a Peter Rehra. Victim’s brother-in-law Sonu said Mangat’s money and mobile phone were missing.

Man drowns in pond

Tarsem Singh (30) drowned in a  pond at Thathia Mahantan village, 20 km from here, on Tuesday. Sources  said he was bathing in the pond with a fractured arm when he lost  balance. Divers were called from Harike to recover his body.

DC to report on cattle menace

The Punjab Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the state government and has sought a report through Patiala Deputy Commissioner on the menace of stray cattle by July 24. The move came after Gurjit Singh, advocate and guest faculty at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, filed a complaint in this regard.
