Three youths held for assault

Three youths who had attacked and looted two local chemists and a commission agent were nabbed by the Fazilka police on Thursday morning. Those arrested are brothers Nirvair Singh and Talwinder Singh, residents of Bandiwala village, and Tarjinder Singh of Jandwala Kharta village.
One of them is a graduate, another a college dropout and the third is Class XII-pass. The three had started a business of marketing clothes a few months back but it did not pay off. Desperate to become rich, the trio first assaulted commission agent Des Raj of Fazilka and snatched Rs 2 lakh from him on May 30 near the Shahtirwala railway crossing, said the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Fazilka, Narinder Bhargav said thereafter, the trio purchased two unlicensed pistols from a criminal of Fazilka. Then they attacked two chemists at 11.15 pm on June 16 in a busy locality here. They attacked chemist shop owner Lovely Thakral with a sharp-edged weapon and snatched his cash bag containing about Rs 1.5 lakh. As Sahil, the victim’s friend, tried to chase them he was fired at by the accused.
After a week-long search operation, the police got clues and on a tip-off, arrested them this morning near Banwala Hanumanta village. A police team intercepted the accused and seized Rs 2.4 lakh and some arms and ammunition from their possession.
